3 Ways Your Home Design Supports Your New Year's Goals
Your environment affects the way you feel from the moment you wake up. For example, how your bedroom feels, the lighting, colors, textures, and organization can influence how you move throughout the day.
After you wake, you probably go to the bathroom, the kitchen, and the living room. Then, some of us go to a home office or possibly to the garage as we head out to our daily routines.
Your home design can affect how you function in all these spaces.
Today, I’m sharing some tips on which design decisions can help you achieve your 2022 goals.
1. Organized and In Control
Organization can save you time and money! How often have you purchased something only to find out you already had it? When you have a place for everything, items are easier to find, and we do not end up with unnecessary purchases. You also end up with a calm mind and mental clarity.
You can also have a feeling of control over your life and events. For example, having an organized pantry and refrigerator can help you with meal planning, just like having an organized office allows you to make better use of your time, enabling you to spend more time with your loved ones.
Assisting our clients with daily organization and listening to your priorities is integral to our design process.
2. Abundant Daily Mindfulness
As a designer, I want to hear what you love to do, where you have visited, or wish to visit in the future. How do you spend your free time? What brings you peace?
Once I learn about your habits, hobbies, and goals, we can move forward with your space.
If you enjoy playing table games with friends and family, knitting, scrapbooking, or building puzzles, then let's get a perfect table for you to enjoy these fun activities without making a mess that will take away from the fun!
Light, color, and textures can also be vehicles of comfort and relaxation. I love playing with them to create the zen you crave.
3. Intentional Space for Physical Activity or Exercise
It’s simple to follow through with easy goals, especially fun goals. Creating designated spaces to do your activities is important. For example, if you enjoy yoga or ridding your Peloton bike, it is important to allow for a space that will enable you to enjoy these activities.
If you don’t have a designated area dedicated for these activities and instead have your clothes hanging on the side of the bike, or the dog is laying on your yoga mat, you may be less inclined to exercise.
So, you need to be strategic about where you store your gear. For example, having your shoes, towels, mat, and water bottles next to your workout area saves you time when it is time to get moving.
My Peloton is by a window in our guest room. I keep my gear in that room by the bike, and it’s out of the way. I can close the door and leave the pups outside so that I can enjoy my ride (it is actually more fun for me when it is over :-)
Achieving our goals may not be easy. But that is why they are on our list to have a roadmap as we work towards them. When you tie your mental, physical, and financial goals to how you design your home, you have a holistic approach. One aspect of your life will support the other, and before you know it, you will be on your way to an organized home, and you will be feeling healthier, more energetic, and relaxed.
