As we move into the warmer months, many of us are ready to spend some time outside. Creating a space that offers comfort, function, and beauty are important in order for us to fully enjoy our outdoor spaces.
When we spend more time outdoors, we become more relaxed, our concentration increases, and our overall health improves.
Given the tremendous benefits of fresh air, are you ready for some tips on how to make your outdoor living space more enticing? Let’s get started…
Step 1: Think About Your Preferred Uses for the Spaces
Sometimes we may be looking for a quiet spot to sit, watch the birds, read a book, or even take a nap. Other times we may want to take advantage of the fresh air and entertain in our outdoor space. Going outdoors for meals and conversation is a great way to spend time with family and friends!
Step 2: Start to Layer Your Space from the Ground Up
When creating an outdoor space, we usually work in layers. I love to select the paint colors first and work with existing surfaces and furnishings. Then we can add in art, rugs, pillows, throws, and other accessories. Incorporating plants and texture is also important when creating a balance between function and beauty.
For this collection, I selected some items just for you! I looked for items that offer style, comfort, durability.
Step 3: Choose Your Favorite Durable Outdoor Furniture
Bringing the comforts that we usually enjoy indoors to the outside is getting easier every day. Depending on where you live, and if your outdoor space is somewhat protected from the elements or if it is completely exposed, selections can be made that will provide a long-lasting and hopefully low-maintenance space.
Nowadays there are so many choices for outdoor materials. From Sunbrella fabrics that fare well in the sun to very realistic-looking wicker and wood options, the possibilities are endless!
Step 4: Pick Your Soft Furnishings for Quality and Comfort
To make the outdoors comfortable and appealing, add weather-resistant furniture cushions, rugs, pillows, blankets, etc. These areas will be even more cozy and enjoyable with those soft furnishings in place.
I love using rugs to delineate outdoor areas. Adding a colorful rug to your sitting area will help you "contain" this area, which automatically makes it cozier and more attractive.
Step 5: Add Lighting as Your Beautiful Finishing Touch
To complete the picture, how about adding lighting?! Mood lighting, like lanterns and string lights, can add a festive and warm touch; not to mention that you can also add some citronella candles or torches to help with insect control.
Oh, and don’t forget a few accessories like potted plants, serving trays, outdoor dishes, sturdy glassware, etc.
