Do you wonder if you should follow interior design trends when remodeling or decorating your home or investment property? I think it is a tricky topic. In my opinion, we are all influenced by our surroundings. As a result, we often find ourselves attracted to some of the new interior design and fashion trends before realizing that they are "trends."
You can add a fresh twist to traditional items and styles that you’ve seen repeated throughout the decades. This way, we can create a timeless interior that you can update easily with new colors or textures that hopefully do not need to be updated too soon.
We are currently researching and exploring to find what is new and, most importantly, what will be an improvement to what we already know. It allows us to share options that will make your life more comfortable, choices that enable us to beautifully and safely reach your goals of function and personality.
A Visit to High Point Market
During my last visit to High Point Market this Spring, I introduced my new assistant, Shelley, to this excellent experience! It was so fun to remember the first time I ever attended.
Although I had read some articles and listened to podcasts, I had not properly prepared myself for the experience. The sheer volume of beautiful furnishings, lighting, accessories, bedding, wallpaper, and rugs made it hard to stay on task. But I promised myself that I would come back. I have been going every year for over 4 years, and now I was able to attend with someone who loves interiors as much as I do!
This time we were ready! We had a plan of action, a list of our usual vendors to visit, and a list of recommendations for new vendors and products to consider. I cannot wait to share some of our top choices with you!
Cane, Wicker, and Rattan
Living in Florida and being born in Puerto Rico, coastal and tropical pieces tug at my heart. Cane and rattan remind me of our dining chairs and my grandmother's living room furniture. These materials have been around for centuries, and they are not going anywhere.
I love the texture and organic feel they can add to a room. Cane, wicker, and rattan are used in many ways, and you can incorporate them into almost any decor. In some instances, they can be customized, like the cushion fabric and rattan color on this beautiful hand-crafted chair, which allows us to add a unique and curated touch, not to mention an heirloom to your home.
Deep Wall Colors
Ok, so some of these colors may not be timeless (unless you are selecting a historic color for an older home), but adding the right bold color to your walls can add a rich and sophisticated feel to the space and make it a great conversation topic. The beauty of paint is that if you ever get tired of your choice, you can always update the look with another coat of paint.
Rich, bright colors were also prevalent in many showrooms we visited. It was exciting to see the happy options, from jewel-tone sofas and pillows to beautiful prints on wallpaper, fabrics, and rugs.
However, if you aren’t comfortable with very colorful prints, there are other ways to introduce color. For example, you can add a couple of pops of color to an otherwise pretty neutral space. Again, this allows you to enjoy what you like and add personality simultaneously.
Thanks for joining Shelley and me during our High Point Market, Spring 2022 recap. We had a blast and cannot wait to share our expertise while making your space one that tells a story and reflects who you are and what you love.
We’d love to chat with you about your next project. So contact us to get started!
Until next time,
Gloria
